Life Story Book FAQ

Getting started

Who is the Remento Life Story Book for?

Remento is perfect for preserving the stories of parents, grandparents, or any loved one whose memories you want to capture for future generations. We've designed it to be incredibly simple to use. There are no apps to download or passwords to remember. That's why even our customers who are 85+ years young recommend Remento to their friends!

You can also use Remento to record your own life story. Whether you want to share your experiences, pass down your values, preserve career wisdom, or simply reflect on your journey, Remento makes it effortless to create your own keepsake book filled with stories, spoken naturally and transformed into beautifully written chapters.

How does Remento work?

Every week, the "storyteller" (the person telling their story) receives an email and/or SMS message with a new storytelling prompt. These prompts can be selected by a collaborator designated in the account. Using any device with internet access, the storyteller records their response to the question—no logins or downloads needed. Our technology then transforms that recording into a written story, which is then sent to all collaborators. The written stories can be automatically adjusted to a different tone or length, or edited directly. Photos can also be added, either as prompts to inspire reflections, or after a recording has been submitted.

At the end of the year of prompts, the written stories and photos can be bound into a keepsake book, plus QR codes that play the recording used to write each chapter. One hardcover, color-printed book is included with the standard subscription.

What if Remento goes out of business?

That's certainly not our plan! However, your precious memories documented on Remento are too precious to risk. That's why we make it so easy to download any of your recordings, photos, or written stories from our website at any time. This way you can save them locally on your favorite device, or add them to your family's cloud storage account (e.g., Google Drive, iCloud, DropBox etc.). You can learn more about our commitment to protecting your data here.

Can two people share one Remento?

Remento is designed for one storyteller per book to ensure their unique voice and perspective shine through. However, you can purchase Remento for multiple storytellers and create separate books for each person.

Subscription & pricing

What's included in my purchase?

Our standard package includes:

  • One storyteller account
  • Unlimited collaborators
  • One year's worth of story prompts
  • One hardcover, full color-printed book (up to 200 pages)
  • Free shipping in the United States

Why is there a subscription?

Our standard package includes one full year of access to our platform, including all the features that allow you to collect stories. If you want to keep collecting stories after the first year, you can renew your subscription ($99/year or $12/month) to record new memories and create new books.

But don't worry - you don't have to renew. Even with an inactive subscription, you can still view all of your family's recordings, each of which can be downloaded at any time.

What if I don't renew my subscription?

Even after your first year, your family's stories remain fully accessible. You'll always be able to listen to recordings, read stories, and order additional copies of your book. Plus, you can download all your memories at any time and save them to your preferred storage (like Google Drive or iCloud).

While you won't be able to record new stories without an active subscription, you can reactivate your subscription at any time.

Recording stories

How do I submit my story?

Recording your story is simple - just click the link in your email or text message. No apps to download or passwords to remember. You can record using any device with internet access, and our Speech-To-Story™ technology will transform your recording into written text.

How does Remento turn recordings into writing?

Our Speech-To-Story™ technology automatically transforms recordings into written text in two different ways.

The first option provides a word-for-word transcript that preserves the natural speaking style while removing filler words like "um" and "uh." For example: "I walked into that classroom, you know, I was wearing my new red shoes."

The second option crafts a flowing narrative that captures the essence of the story. You can customize these narratives by choosing between first-person ("I remember") or third-person ("She remembers") perspective, and select whether you want the stories to be concise or detailed. For example, the same story might become: "Jane remembers walking into the classroom wearing her new red shoes."

You can choose different settings for each individual story or apply your preferences across your entire account. All stories remain editable, so you can refine the text anytime before printing your book. You can read more here.

Can I share more than one story per week?

Yes! While we default to sending one prompt per week to keep things manageable, you can adjust the frequency to receive prompts as often as daily or as rarely as monthly. You can also record multiple responses whenever you feel inspired.

What happens if I miss a question?

No worries! You can always go back and respond to previous prompts whenever you'd like. All prompts are saved and accessible through your family's private digital archive.

How long can recordings be?

Each recording can be up to 30 minutes long. There's no minimum length - some of the most meaningful stories can be just a few minutes.

What languages does Remento support?

Remento's Speech-To-Story™ technology currently supports English and Spanish, with more languages coming soon.

The platform can understand Spanish recordings and will accurately transcribe and print them in your hardcover book. This means your storyteller can respond to the English prompts in Spanish, and their Spanish stories will be preserved exactly as they shared them in the final printed book, complete with QR codes linking to their original Spanish recordings.

Customizing the experience

Can I choose or change the questions?

Yes! You have complete flexibility with the storytelling prompts. You can choose from our expert-curated question library, write your own questions, or even use photos to inspire stories. Family members can also contribute questions and vote on future prompts.

Can I change my weekly question?

Yes! Each weekly invitation to record includes a simple way to change the prompt if you'd like a different question. You can select another from our library or write your own.

Is Remento easy to use for older family members?

Yes. Remento was designed with simplicity in mind, especially for parents or grandparents who aren't comfortable with technology. There's no app to download, no login to remember. We send a simple link by email or text. All your storyteller has to do is tap the link and start recording.

Is Remento easy to use for people unfamiliar with technology?

Yes! Storytellers don't need to download apps or create passwords. We send a simple link they can click from email or text to start recording. It's designed for ease of use – many of our storytellers are in their 70s, 80s, or 90s.

Book creation & ordering

How do I create my Remento book?

Your Remento book comes together naturally as stories are shared throughout the year. Each time the Storyteller records a memory, our Speech-To-Story™ technology automatically transforms their words into written text.

When you're ready to create your printed book, you'll confirm how you want the stories to appear. You can keep them as word-for-word transcripts, or let our technology transform them into flowing narrative stories. You can enhance these stories by adding photos and editing the text anytime.

Next, you can arrange the stories in any order and select your preferred cover design. Before printing, you'll have the opportunity to preview your entire book. Each story will include a QR code that, when scanned, plays the original recording. This unique feature allows future generations to both read the stories and hear them in the storyteller's own voice.

Your first hardcover, color-printed book (up to 200 pages) is included with your purchase. Since this will become a cherished family keepsake, we encourage you to take time reviewing everything before finalizing your order. Reprints are not available for issues present in the preview.

What exactly gets printed in the book?

Is there a word or page limit to my stories?

For books longer than 380 pages, you can split your stories across two volumes.

Other questions

How is Remento different from Storyworth?

Remento is different from Storyworth in that it captures a loved one’s voice and personality, not just their written words. With Remento, storytellers record memories in their own voice through guided prompts, and the technology instantly transforms those recordings into beautifully written stories that can be printed in a keepsake book alongside QR codes that replay the audio. Storyworth relies on written responses to emailed questions, while Remento makes it effortless for anyone, even those who don’t like writing, to share vivid, personal stories that families can both read and hear for generations to come. Learn more.

How is Remento different from My Life In A Book?

Remento is different from My Life In A Book because it focuses on spoken storytelling rather than written questionnaires. Instead of typing out weekly responses, storytellers simply speak their memories out loud, making it easy and natural for anyone to share their stories in their own voice. Those recordings are then transformed into polished, written narratives and preserved in a keepsake book that also includes QR codes linking back to the original audio. This way, families don’t just receive written stories, they also get the gift of hearing their loved one’s voice and personality, something My Life In A Book does not offer.

How is Remento different from StoryKeeper

Remento is different from StoryKeeper in that it provides both the written story and the original voice behind it. With Remento, storytellers record memories through guided prompts, and those recordings are instantly turned into polished narratives while also being preserved as recordings. Families can print these stories into a keepsake book that includes QR codes linking back to the recordings, allowing future generations to not only read about their loved one’s life but also hear them tell it in their own words.

How is Remento different from No Story Lost

Remento is different from No Story Lost because it doesn’t require long interviews or hiring a professional writer. Instead, storytellers simply record their memories in their own voice through guided prompts, making it easy to share stories at their own pace. Those recordings are automatically transformed into beautifully written narratives and preserved in a keepsake book that also includes QR codes linking back to the recordings.

Recording stories

How do I record a memory?

Choose a milestone or moment, add a photo if you have one, and record yourself talking about it. What happened? Who was there? What made you smile? Use your phone, tablet, or computer, and speak naturally. Remento takes care of turning your words into a written story.

How does Remento turn my recording into a story?

Our Speech-to-Story™ technology turns your spoken reflections into polished writing while keeping your memories and perspective at the center. You don’t need a script or perfectly formed sentences. Just talk as if you were telling someone about the moment.

You can review and edit the written story before printing. Your original recording stays connected to it, so your child can one day hear the voice behind the words.

Do I need to record something every week?

No. There’s no required weekly schedule. Capture a moment as it happens, revisit a few photos when you have time, or record several stories in one sitting. Build your book at a pace that works for your family.

What if I skip a milestone?

That’s completely fine. The prompts are ideas, not a checklist. Choose the moments that matter to your family, skip any that don’t fit, and return to others whenever you like.

How much do I need to say?

About a minute is a great place to start. Share what you remember and why the moment mattered. A few small details, like the face they made or how you felt, can tell a wonderful story.

What languages does Remento support?

Remento’s Speech-to-Story™ technology supports English and Spanish. You can record in either language and turn your words into written stories for your book. The original recording remains available to hear in the language you used.

Making it your own

Can I choose which firsts to include?

Yes. Choose from suggested milestones, such as coming home, a first smile, a first holiday, or a first birthday. Use the ones that fit your family and skip the rest. Your book should reflect your child’s story, not someone else’s timeline.

Can I add memories that aren’t firsts?

Absolutely. Add your own moments, from a favorite bedtime routine to the funny sound they make when they’re happy. The little everyday details belong in your book, too.

Do I need to write anything?

No writing required. Just talk about a memory, and Remento turns your words into a written story. You can edit the result if you’d like, but you never have to start with a blank page.

Do I have to complete the book in order?

No. Start with whichever memory comes to mind, whether it happened yesterday or months ago. You can add stories in any order and arrange them before printing.

Book creation & ordering

How do I turn my memories into a book?

Your book takes shape as you add photos and record stories. Remento handles the writing and page layout, so you can focus on the memories.

When you’re ready to print, review your stories, arrange them in the order you want, and choose your cover. Preview the finished book and make any edits before placing your order. One hardcover, full-color book credit is included in your purchase.

What exactly gets printed in the book?

Your chosen photos and written stories are printed in full, alongside their titles. QR codes can connect the stories to your original recordings, so your child can read about their early years and hear you telling the story. The printed book is a keepsake all on its own.

Can I edit or add on to my stories?

Yes. You can edit the written story and add photos before printing. Correct a detail, add something you remembered later, or adjust the wording until it feels right to you.

Can I use photos already on my phone?

Yes. Upload photos from your phone to revisit earlier memories or capture something that just happened. Choose a picture that brings a moment back, then tell the story behind it. You can also add photos after recording.

What does the final printed book look like?

Can I see a preview before printing?

Yes. You can preview your book before ordering and review the stories, photos, and their order. Take a moment to check names, dates, and any details you’d like to adjust before sending it to print.

Is the book only for my baby’s first year?

No. First smiles and first birthdays are a starting point, not a stopping point. You can include memories from before your baby arrives and moments beyond their first year. Choose the chapter of your child’s life you want to capture.

Can I purchase extra books?

Yes. You can order additional copies of your finished hardcover book to share with grandparents or other loved ones. Each copy includes your photos, written stories, and QR codes for the original recordings.

Do I need a photo for every story?

No. A memory doesn’t need a matching photo to belong in your book. Record the details you want to remember, and add a photo later if you find one.
